Exciting news out of Normes d'accessibilité Canada / Accessibility Standards Canada that Canada has adopted the European standard EN 301 549:2021 Accessibility requirements for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This is great news because it brings Canada into alignment with much of the rest of the world for accessibility standards. The authors shown below put out a well-read academic paper on Canadian corruption issues just a few months back. That this issue continues to be highlighted by CSIS, CISC, RCMP, foreign intelligence services, and now clearly stated in academic papers... and yet is completely ignored by government... is disastrous for our nation. The well-documented complaints of thousands of citizens is denied, delayed & ignored in practiced patterns to frustrate fairness & just responses, leading to ever increasing corruption & infiltration by organized crime. Even the firing of our Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould, was a cover-up of massive corruption issues in Canada... and was accomplished without any repercussions for the perpetrators. My own experience of having millions of dollars of R&D crushed by career bureaucrats has been refused any fair review even though 4 Federal Ministers had requested the tech, US Homeland had vetted the tech and approved it for BC/Alaska border testing, and CBSA & CRA documentation clearly states that there was no rationale to attack this company that was providing leading-edge border security enhancement... unless it was to defend illicit trade & money laundering. Below are excerpts from the academic paper. The conclusions they make are ignored at our own peril: The impact of neoliberal policies has been profound. The destruction of regulation, regulatory agencies and regulatory agents through downsizing, defunding and deregulation removed many of those responsible for passing and enforcing laws punishing corporate wrongdoing. While deregulation in the United States started with the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, Donald Trump carried it to an extreme. While successive Canadian governments have never directly copied their U.S. counterparts, we, too, have witnessed the negative outcomes associated with globalization. Given all this, serious action against corruption, in Canada and abroad, must include moving beyond the narrow and reactive confines of bribery law and policy, as espoused by the OECD and woefully mishandled by the Canadian government, to confront the harms associated with globalization and bring multinational corporations under democratic control.

Electronic Monitoring Program Expands to Clarenville Area   The provincial government has expanded the #electronicmonitoring program to the Clarenville region. The region spans from Bellevue to Port Blandford along the Trans-Canada Highway and all of the Bonavista Peninsula.   The program allows for enhanced supervision for offenders on probation and conditional sentence orders where the court has imposed the electronic monitoring condition. It also enhances the supervision of those on a temporary absence from correctional facilities where electronic monitoring is deemed appropriate.   Offenders in the program wear ankle bracelets that provide 24/7 location data to probation officers to help enforce conditions such as curfews and no-contact orders. ANNOUNCEMENT: DTLab launches the Digital Credentials Training Program to fight cybercrime, improve privacy protection and accelerate digital inclusion. Our two courses - Digital Credentials 101: Fundamentals and Digital Credentials 102: Introduction to Implementation - are for organizations, governments and individuals embarking on their digital credential journeys. The new program is the first of its kind in Canada and is offered in both official languages. According to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre, financial losses from fraud alone have more than tripled from $165 million in 2020 to $554 million in 2023. In response to this, our new Digital Credentials Training Program provides participants with the necessary knowledge to better protect themselves and their organizations using digital credentials. After taking these courses participants will be able to: - Understand digital identity and credentials at an introductory level - Adopt a common language and terminology with fellow participants - Be able to think critically about digital identity and credential programs and solutions In doing so, DTLab is contributing to the ongoing fight against cybercrime and fraud. Public Services and Procurement Canada | Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada (PSPC) - Using or Providing Cloud Solutions for Controlled Goods Data On May 16th, PSPC released the following guidance on Canada Buys: Are you a registrant in the Government of Canada’s Controlled Goods Program who uses or provides cloud solutions to store data? If so, then you have a responsibility to ensure that controlled goods data is properly safeguarded in the cloud. Individuals and organizations registered in the Controlled Goods Program should: only use cloud solutions provided by cloud service providers registered with the Controlled Goods Program encrypt their controlled goods data when uploading or transferring data to the cloud restrict access to their controlled goods data to individuals who have been security assessed under section 15 of the Controlled Goods Regulations report security breaches affecting their cloud-stored controlled goods data to the Controlled Goods Program Cloud service providers should: register with the Controlled Goods Program to be able to store controlled goods data implement a security plan detailing the controls used to protect the physical assets and locations for their cloud solutions as well as the cloud environment itself ensure that only employees who have been security assessed under section 15 of the Controlled Goods Regulations have access to a client’s controlled goods data when providing technical assistance https://lnkd.in/eEPWPuSU

🆕 The Center for Climate and Security (CCS) and the International Military Council on Climate and Security were well represented at the recent Montreal Climate Security Summit in October. Co-sponsored and co-organized by the Conference of Defence Associations Institute and the newly-forged NATO Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence (CCASCOE), the conference convened senior-level policy makers, government officials, academia and think tank leadership, and industry to grapple with the intersecting crises caused by a changing climate. Sherri Goodman, Secretary General of the International Military Council on Climate and Security and Board Chair of the Council on Strategic Risks, gave remarks on #climatechange as a threat multiplier and moderated a panel on operational resilience. Marisol M., CCS research fellow and Senior Arctic Analyst at the Wilson Center, gave her take on a panel focused on the evolving security situation in the Arctic. Caroline Baxter, CCS Senior Advisor and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Education and Training, served on a panel on strategic foresight and shared her experiences driving climate literacy at DoD. Louise van Schaik, Senior Member of IMCCS and Head of Unit EU and Global Affairs at the Clingendael Institute, moderated a panel on greening #defence and #military readiness. General Tom Middendorp (Ret)., Chair of IMCCS, gave the final keynote address. The conference yielded a number of powerful takeaways. As the Honorable Sharon B., founder and president of EcoSpherics, put it, “Climate change is the threat that’s outpacing us.” This theme echoed throughout the conference and charged attendees to take action, to include determining what to be ready for and what tools to be ready with. The importance of information, climate-informed decisions, and the importance of mainstreaming a sense of urgency infused main and side-bar discussions.
